The Lead Software Developer role is to plan, coordinate, and supervise all activities related to the design, development, and implementation of organizational information systems and software applications. The Lead Software Developeris also responsible for maintaining, supporting, and upgrading existing systems and applications. This individual will apply proven communication skills, problem-solving skills, and knowledge of best practices to guide his/her development team on issues related to the design, development, and deployment of mission-critical information and software systems. Partnership with Analysts, Architecture, QA, and business SMEs will be regularly expected. This critical role will report to the IT Director, Sales & Operations Services, and will demonstrate development practices leadership, establishing and monitoring standards, processes, policies, best practices (among all developers), will stand up and lead our Development Community of Practice, and will demonstrate improvements in quality, security and efficiency in development output. Additionally, this role will support improving our documentation, technical debt, and will adhere to our continuous improvement commitment. 

COMPENSATION

This position has a competitive compensation package that is a combination of base salary plus profit sharing paid quarterly after 1 year of employment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategy & Planning 
  • Distribute work amongst developers, allocating between support work and development for new solutions 
  • Estimate effort, complexity and work 
  • Align with architecture to determine best methods to solve for requirements and requests 
  • Ensure documentation is maintained 
  • Establish and follow standards, policies, and procedures related to development 
  • Review and analyze existing application effectiveness and efficiency, and then develop strategies for improving or leveraging these systems; support decomplexifying current systems, proposed solutions, and help to remediate technical debt 
  • Establish and lead our Development Community of Practice 
  • Determine, establish, manage, and monitor development best practices amongst development team 
  • Support the portfolio planning and modeling activities annually and quarterly to ensure development capacity aligns to prioritized, proposed, and committed demand 
  • Ensure that development projects meet business requirements and goals, fulfill end-user requirements, and identify and resolve systems issues. 
  • Development 
  • Direct and participate in peer code review practices and routines 
  • Troubleshoot, debug, maintain and improve existing software. 
  • Direct system testing and validation procedures. 
  • Direct software programming and document all development. 
  • Maintain reporting dashboards and monthly reporting needs. 
  • Work with departments on technical issues including software system design and maintenance. 
  • Design, develop, and install enhancements and upgrades to systems and application software. 
  • Testing, design, and integration of all software systems. 
  • Collaborate with departments to implement new enhancements or software to meet the needs of the business. 
  • Assist with implementation of new software as needed. 
  • Develop technical documentation to guide future software development projects. 
  • Observe user feedback to recommend improvements to existing software. 
  • Maintain Development queue and attend IT User Group Meetings 
  • Backup the Help Desk as needed. 
  • Architecture, Research, and Development 
  • Research and recommend software products and services for procurement and development.
  • Coordinate feasibility studies for software and system products and offer advice based on findings.
  • Ensure new software integrations meet functional requirements and compliance standards.
  • Establish and enforce functional policies, procedures, and quality assurance practices.
  • Stay updated with company software technologies.
  • Maintenance and Management 
  • Ensure thorough testing of upgrades, configurations, and customizations before implementation.
  • Coordinate with vendors for upgrade schedules, releases, and related activities.
  • Oversee development and deployment of new applications and enhancements.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders in software testing.
  • Regularly update software development queue.
  • Lead application development team to support business operations.
  • Identify and resolve errors in programs and systems.
  • Provide technical leadership to project teams.
  • Collaborate with network administrators and software engineers for quality assurance.
  • Prepare and monitor budgets as needed.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Strong understanding of system and software quality assurance.
  • Extensive proficiency in Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations.
  • Good project management skills.
  • Knowledge of database design, file management, and development languages including C#, .NET, JavaScript, X , HTML, CSS, SQL.
  • Familiarity with Azure and cloud-first development.
  • Understanding of network hardware, protocols, and standards.
  • Knowledge of data privacy practices and laws (preferred).
